Obituary for Michael "Mike" Myrick

April 5, 1948 - September 21, 2021
Holland, Michigan | Age 73

Michael "Mike" Myrick, husband, dad, grandpa, captain of our boats, dog whisperer, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, with his family by his side. He was 73.

Mike was the son of Robert and Sue Myrick and graduated from Holland High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law, Julius and Angeline Lamberts.

During Mike's early years he was proud to have been a paperboy for the Holland Sentinel with a route on the west end of Holland faithfully delivering papers to his customers and developing good relations with businesses like the VFW, where he would stop to buy a Coke. He continued his employment with the Sentinel during his high school years in a larger role as the bundle delivery person to paperboys. Throughout his high school years, he enrolled in printing classes and shortly after high school was recruited to work for John Thomas Batts in Zeeland as a printer. It was during his employment with Batts when Mike was drafted into the Army in March 1968. He served two years in the Army including serving in the Vietnam War. After completion of his service, he returned to the Printing Department at Batts. It was during his second employment at Batts that he was asked to be part of the Lamberts Poultry and Seafood Market family business working in all areas of the business. After several years with Lamberts, the owner Julius Lamberts sold the business to Jim Lamberts, brother-in-law, and Mike. Mike and Jim continued to own the business for next 40 years. Throughout those 40 years the Lamberts facility continued to be well known for the best products and service both in wholesale and retail. As a retail customer shopping at Lamberts, it was not just shopping for good product, it was a shopping experience with customers leaving with a smile due to the banter between themselves and the shop proprietors. Many good relationships were built during those years and continue to this day.

Mike was an avid boater starting in his youth when his family and their friends the Overway's and Kardux's would boat and ski. They would drop ski ropes outside the Holland Lighthouse and Mike and the other youth would ski from the Holland to the Saugatuck Channel, no falling allowed! Boating continued to be his passion which he passed on to his children. Most boaters would recognize Mike as he stood on the South Pier on Sunday nights at 5pm watching every boat come through the channel, what he really was doing was shopping.

Mike was also a lover of Harley Motorcycles and all kind of cars, somehow, he would also manage to talk Sally into buying new cars every few years. Also very close to Mike's heart were the veterans' associations of the VFW Henry Walters Post 2144, the American Legion, and the DAV. As you can tell he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sally; daughter, Jamie Myrick, son, Bryan and Lisa Myrick; grandchildren, Payton, Charley, and Grant Myrick all of Holland; siblings, Robert F. and Elizabeth Myrick of Grosse Isle, Carol Myrick and David Kuebler of Williamston; in-laws, Jean Sovenski, Jim Lamberts of Holland; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12 noon, Friday, September 24, 2021, at Christ Memorial Church, Holland with Rev. Toby Gruppen officiating (enter through doors D & E). Burial with military honors will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 23, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland.
