Lam was born on February 10, 1927 to Martin & Effie Haveman in Holland, Michigan. He served the US Navy on the USS Stafford (DE-411) in the Pacific as a fireman 1945 - 1946 and worked as a pressroom foreman at Steketee-VanHuis for 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman – his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing in northern Michigan, Wyoming, and Canada. His house was full of prized deer heads, stuffed pheasants, fish, an owl, even a bear. He and Clarissa and their family enjoyed many years of fishing and family time at their summer cottage in Newaygo, Michigan on the Muskegon River.

He was a volunteer at Evergreen Commons, and later in life appreciated his community of friends at Royal Park Place. He always liked a good story about any kind of wildlife, and spent much time listening to books about the West and nature from Muskegon Library for the Blind. Lam was a lifelong member of Maplewood Reformed Church.

Lambert's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Zeeland, for the care he received the last few weeks.
