Kenneth Buter, 76, of Holland, began the first page of his story October 11, 1940, and finished his final chapter on October 11, 2016.
Ken was born in Holland, Michigan, to Henry and Johanna (Keen) Buter. He graduated from Zeeland High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. Ken married Mary Diepenhorst and they raised their family in Overisel and at Overisel Christian Reformed Church. Before retiring he was a longtime employee of SEMCO Energy. After retiring he enjoyed picking through estate sales, going to auctions and managing his ebay account. Ken enjoyed singing and music, especially at church. He was always happy hunting and fishing. Ken was also a proud grandpa and loved watching his grandchildren participate in athletics.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, their children: Brian and Tara Buter of West Olive, Matt and Kathy Buter of Hamilton, Kurt Buter of Holland, Steve and Stacey Buter of Holland; grandchildren: Jake, Zeke, Abe, Matthias, Kirsten, Abby, Gabriel, Mya; siblings: Norma Buter, Ron and Ruth Buter, Judy and Bob Lohr, Linda and Cal Timmer; in-laws: Ruth Diepenhorst, Kenneth and Bette Diepenhorst, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, at Overisel Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Thursday, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
